(AP) -- Rain has cancelled the annual governor's Carolighting ceremony at the Statehouse.
Organizers said a ceremony to light the Christmas tree on Statehouse grounds will still go on around 6 p.m. Monday. South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin and volunteers who helped with the tree will help flip the switch and turn on the lights.
Monday's event was supposed to be the 45th annual Carolighting and was sponsored by the City of Columbia, Columbia Breakfast Optimist Club, Columbia Garden Club and Garden Club of SouthCarolina.
Last year, 200-plus musicians performed at the Statehouse steps.
