Myrtle Beach police say a man was hit by a vehicle about 11 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Highway 501and Canal Street.

They say the man was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead from massive trauma.

Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard says the man is Jerry Jay Johnson, 51, of Myrtle Beach.

Police say no charges will be filed against the driver because the man walked in front of the vehicle.
