If you have an electric vehicle, you can plug it in for free along the Grand Strand.
Coastal Carolina University is the site for one of the five charging stations Plug-In Carolina and Santee Cooper have in the area.
The other four sites are located at 4th Avenue and Laurel Street in Conway, the Horry County Library in Conway, 6th Avenue South in North Myrtle Beach, and the Speir Building at Horry-Georgetown Technical College Grand Strand Campus in Myrtle Beach.
The two companies gave a demonstration of how they work Monday on Coastal Carolina's campus. As an incentive for you to use them, Santee Cooper will provide the electricity for free over the next three years.
Jim Poch is the Executive Director for Plug-In Carolina and he says the main goal of having these charging stations is "to encourage their adoption so that people can see them, touch them, they can use them, they can see other folks using them and so it's not a novelty but it becomes a standard piece of equipment for transportation."
Plug-In Carolina also has stations in Greenville, Rock Hill, Columbia and Charleston.
