Sex Offender arrested on 41 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor

Darlington County investigators arrested Larry James Tyler, 58, of Darlington, after they say an investigation revealed inappropriate pictures on his cell phone and computer.

Investigators say in September, they learned Tyler had given a minor child a cell phone with explicit text messages on it.

When they originally located Tyler, he was arrested for driving under suspension and Disseminating Obscene Material to a Minor 12 years or younger.

"Investigators then were able to obtain a search warrant and search Tyler's house. A computer, multiple hard drives, cell phones, and other various items of potential evidence were collected" said Darlington County Sheriff Wayne Byrd.

Byrd says they discovered child pornography on on his "phones and online sources."

Forensic analysis of the devices was completed in October 2011 and according to the DCSO, revealed additional obscene material and child pornography.

On November 9th, Tyler was served with 41 counts of 2nd degree Sexual Exploitation of a minor stemming from the analysis of the digital devices.

The sheriff's office also notified The Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Tyler is in the Darlington County Detention Center on a $62,262 bond for DUS and Disseminating Obscene Material to a Minor 12 years or younger, and is awaiting bond for the recent charges of 41 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor 2nd degree.
