Community leaders in Georgetown are learning how to respond to natural and man-made disasters.

More than 70 Georgetown city and county officials are taking an incident command class this week. They're studying technical terms and organizational skills for responding to everything from hurricanes to terrorist attacks.

The training involves learning how to work together as a team, to muster the right resources and manpower to react to a disaster.

"How do you bring people together, how do you assess the situation, how do you plan for an event, how do you gather your resources and how do you direct those resources most effectively. That's what we're learning," said Dwight McInvaill, Georgetown Co. Library Director.

This week's training will help city and county officials prepare to take a more intensive FEMA course on the incident command system in Maryland next January.
