Workers say passing ordinance on batch plants was the "right thing"

The right thing was done. That's what around 50 batch plant workers said about a new Horry County ordinance.
County Council passed an ordinance about the concrete mixing plants. It allows for temporary plants to be put up for specific projects for up to two years. The concrete made there must be solely for that project. Temporary plants also have to be 500 feet away from housing. Workers say this keeps their jobs in town.
"The jobs, like they said, we need to stay here, and if it has to go out, we'd obviously do that to support ourselves. I've been doing this for like 18 years, so believe I was out of town for about 12 of those, so it's nice to be home working," worker Michael Doyle said.
The new law also says permanent batch plants must be 500 feet away from homes and enclosed by a sound blocking building.
