This Saturday the Coastal Cancer Collaborative is holding a "YOU have the power" health conference in Georgetown. It will focus on educating the community about the disparities in cancer rates.

The free event will also cover how to prevent, detect, and beat cancer.

"We want to bridge the gap. we want everybody to have the same care, the same opportunities to get screened so we can detect cancer early, the same prevention opportunities so this conference specifically addresses that," explained Denise Richbourg, community manager with the American Cancer Society.

If you'd like to attend the event it will be Saturday, September 24 in the Glisson Center at Bethel A.M.E. Church on Broad Street in Georgetown. The event lasts from 9 a.m to Noon.

Breakfast will be provided. The first ten churches to register a group and bring their van will be given a $25 gas card.
