MYRTLE BEACH -- Lon Linke and his family have tried to refinance their mortgage since he lost his job and had to take another with less pay. To make their payments more affordable, the Linke's asked Chase Bank to modify their loan.
"We applied several times, but they were unable to receive our information in the correct amount of time. So they asked us to apply again," says Linke. He says this process of Chase not receiving the information in time happened a few times before they decided to fax their information to the bank.
"We tried to fax it to the 800 number they gave us. It wouldn't work, and we called the number."
Instead of a Chase banker as Linke and his wife expected, "It was an adult entertainment hotline."
The sex hotline offers anyone 18 or older the chance to fulfill their fantasies with ultra hot girlfriends. "Talk one on one with a nasty girl," the voice on the other line says.
Linke called Chase's customer care center Thursday to let them know about the fax number. "We thought we were doing them a favor by calling them and saying, 'hey this is going on,'" says Linke, "If something were going on in my house that I didn't know about and was that adult in nature, I would want to know about it, and I would want to fix the problem as soon as problem. It's been a day now and nothing's been done."
Friday, NewsChannel 15 contacted Chase's Media Relations Department to let them know the number for the hotline was still on their website.
A Chase representative said the company was unaware of the wrong number and apologized to any of their customers that were offended.
Linke says he wasn't so much offended by the hotline as much as he was by the customer service he was given. "If we can at least get their attention to be a little more active and concerned, that's what we are trying to accomplish."
He says all he wants from Chase is a chance. "Ultimately we want to apply for a loan remodification. That's it. We're not looking for anything else. We just want to be able to do business like other American's do who are going through tough times."
The Chase representative asks if anyone finds any phone number errors on their website to call the customer care center and ask to speak to someone who deals with escalated situations.
The fax number was changed on the website Friday afternoon.
