The final June numbers are in and city officials say over a twelve month period they have reached a new peak with $8.9 million collected in hospitality fees and accommodations taxes.

There's been an 11 percent in hospitality fees and a 12 percent in accommodations taxes.

Mike Shelton, Budget and Evaluation Director with the City of Myrtle Beach, said in an e-mail to city council the growth results from increased attendance to the city. He added, "we are seeing mixed results in some other revenue categories but the hospitality and related sectors are showing a little more strength than we expected as the year-end numbers come in."

The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce spends millions in advertising Myrtle Beach in and out of state, in Canada, and Europe.
