South Carolina Department of Corrections Spokesperson Clark Newsome says a woman who was shot to death Tuesday night, Diane Louallen, worked at the department's Kershaw Correctional Institution as a sergeant.

Newsome says she had worked with the department since 2007 and was just recently promoted to sergeant.

Pageland Police Chief Larry Brown says officers responded to a home on North Vine Street after resident Barry Louallen called the Pageland Police Department and said he had shot his wife, Diane.

Chief Brown says, when officers got there, they found Diane Louallen dead in the road and Barry Louallen pacing up and down North Vine Street with a gun in his hand.

Officers ordered Barry Louallen to drop his weapon several times. An officer shot Barry Louallen after he pointed his weapon at the officer and refused to put it down, according to Chief Brown.

The Chesterfield County Coroner says Diane Louallen died from gunshot wounds. Barry Louallen was taken to the hospital where he later died from gunshot wounds.

The name of the officer who shot Barry Louallen has not been released. We're told he has worked with the Pageland Police Department for eleven years.

Police say hours before the shooting, Barry Louallen called police to his home saying his wife had stolen money out of his safe.
