Florence School District One says a company called CINTAS which is the district's "document reduction" service provider inadvertently shredded about 300 students records.
The records belonged to rising 9th graders who will attend South Florence High School in the Fall, transitioning from Southside Middle.
School officials phoned parents and told them the records are being retrieved through the district's web-based information system.
School officials have also indicated they intend to work with the local Department of Health and Environmental Control to retrieve birth certificates and immunization records of affected students.
Dr. Allie E. Brooks, Jr., superintendent of Florence School District One says, "Our goal is to ensure parents that we will retrieve the student data as quickly as we can."
Brooks also says the district will implement a plan to ensure inadvertent document shredding doesn't happen again.
