(AP) -- Gas prices may make drivers squeamish about long Memorial Day road trips, but they can feel better about traveling in South Carolina.

AAA Carolinas says the state's gas prices are relatively cheap compared with the rest of the country - and about 16 cents lower per gallon than they were May 1.

Spartanburg, Greenville and Columbia are reporting regular, unleaded gas at $3.50 or less per gallon.

Beach prices are somewhat higher, with prices hovering around $3.60 per gallon in Myrtle Beach and approaching $3.70 in Charleston, the state's highest average.

Officials say the recent price drop reflects a $10 per gallon reduction in crude oil prices.

AAA says 35 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles this weekend, a 2 percent increase from last year.
