(AP) -- GARNER, N.C. (AP) - Scotty McCreery put the town of Garner on the map. Now the town is thinking of putting the places where the latest "American Idol" went to school, worked and prayed on a map  as well.

Town spokesman Rick Mercier (MUR'-sur) says a Michigan family went out of its way to stop in Garner on the way home from Myrtle Beach, S.C., at the behest of their teenage daughter.

In addition, town officials have heard anecdotal stories of other visitors looking for places where Scotty hung out.

The map would include Garner Magnet High School, First Baptist Church, the Lowe's Food Store, the Garner Historic Auditorium and  Lake Benson Park.

The 17-year-old McCreery won the Fox television talent search Wednesday night, defeating 16-year-old Lauren Alaina of Georgia.
