(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A new poll of South Carolina voters shows that more than 40 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents think it's possible that President Barack Obama could win re-election in 2012.
The Winthrop University poll released Tuesday shows Republicans overwhelmingly disapprove of the way Obama's handling his job. However, 43 percent of Republicans and conservative independents say his chances for a second term are at least somewhat likely.
The telephone survey was conducted last week. Responses from Republicans and GOP-leaners have a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent.
Of the 15 Republicans offered in the survey as contenders, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee placed first with 18 percent, followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with 16 percent.
"Not sure" was the No. 1 pick for 17 percent.
