GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - GOP presidential hopefuls stumping at South Carolina county conventions are bragging on congressional Republicans who they say won deeper budget cuts than Democrats wanted and forced a Senate vote on Planned Parenthood funding.
Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich spoke at Republican gatherings in Greenville and Spartanburg on Saturday.
Gingrich said Republicans will have more opportunities to move their agenda forward in a vote on raising the federal debt limit.
Santorum came away with the day's prize. He won 31 percent of the votes in a straw poll at the Greenville convention as Citadel cadets in starched, white uniforms handed out Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Santorum has worked the state more than others with 14 visits.
