BENNETTSVILLE -- Police have charged Michael Vanlons, of Bennettsville, with Manufacturing an Improvised Explosive Device after a device was found in the basement of an apartment complex.
Bennettsville police called in the State Law Enforcement Division's bomb squad to investigate a possible explosive device at an apartment complex on Market street in Bennettsville.
Police tell NewsChannel 15 around noon Monday, someone moving into the apartment found a suspicious device in the basement of the building.
SLED used a robot to retrieve the device. It took it to a safe location, put it in a hole in the ground and used a small explosive charge on the device to detonate and destroy it.
Police say say Vanlons was once a resident at the apartment, but had been evicted.
