Deputies are investigating accusations that some animal control officers shot and killed several dogs and buried their bodies at the county's gravesite for animals.

Chesterfield County Sheriff Sam Parker learned about the allegations Friday afternoon, when he got a call from an animal rights group. Parker says the group dug up the graves on Goodale Road and found the bodies of the dogs. According to Sheriff Parker, it is the county's policy to use medication to euthanize animals instead of a weapon.

Parker says the workers will be placed on administrative leave Monday.

The State Law Enforcement Division is assisting in this investigation to determine if this is a criminal matter.
