The Surfside Beach and Horry County Police Departments arrested a 15-year-old escapee Monday morning, after a week-long investigation revealed that he had been hiding at his Socastee home.
Police say the suspect, who's name is not being released because he's a juvenile, was involved in a series of thefts and pursuits in late November 2010, including one on November 26th where the suspect led officers on a 100+ mph pursuit.
Officers say the chase ended when the teenager crashed the stolen car into a tree in the Deerfield subdivision. He got away as that car burst into flames, but was arrested a day and a half later in Surfside Beach.
Last week, the teenager escaped from a group home in Greenville County.
That's when SBPD's Fugitive Investigator began interviewing the suspect's family members, contacting informants, and conducting surveillance.
When officers arrived at his Socastee home, police say the he jumped from the rear porch and into the backyard, where SBPD officers chased and caught him.
Police say, the teenager resisted the officers by punching and attempting to remove one officer's TASER device from his belt, but was arrested with only minor injuries.
He is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
