(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina National Guard will start work this spring on a facility to base 10 helicopters in Greenville County.

The State newspaper reported construction is to start within two months on the $26 million facility at the Donaldson Center.

The plan will move 45 jobs from McEntire Joint National Guard Base in Eastover to Greenville County. Thirty new jobs also will be added in Greenville.

About 190 part-time soldiers will use the center as their training base.

Major General Les Eiser says the move will allow a more efficient response to disasters and emergencies in the Upstate.

Construction is expected to take about a year and a half.
