Darlington County deputies have arrested a man they say assaulted and robbed an 83-year-old woman.

Warren Kelvin Smith, 46, of Darlington is charged with first degree burglary, kidnapping, and strong armed robbery.

Police he lured the woman outside her home on Oates Highway over the weekend by saying that he had found her purse and demanded money for finding it.

The victim walked over to her car to make sure her purse was still there. Police say that's when Smith assaulted her and pulled her inside the house and robbed her.

The victim was taken to an area hospital and is expected to recover.
