The theater that once staged the Dixie Stampede show is undergoing an $11 million remodeling project, according to theater spokesman Pete Owens. The changes are in anticipation of a new show called Pirates Voyage.
Crews are building a 750,000 gallon indoor lagoon where three pirate ships will float around during the new show. The show will include a cast of more than two dozen aerialists, divers, dancers and singers. There will be animal actors, too. But workers are being tight-lipped on what types of animals they will be.
Workers are also building a 15-foot deep pool and 35,000 gallon outdoor animal habitat. For the Dixie Stampede show, the audience could interact with the horses in outside stables before they performed. The renovated outside area will provide a similar experience.
Dolly Parton owns the theater. She's expected to make an appearance at the June 3rd premiere
