For the third time since December 1st, there snow in the forecast for our area, and frankly, some people are sick of it.
"We're ready for spring," Treasure Scarborough with the Department of Transportation says.
NewsChannel 15 Chief Meteorologist Ed Piotrowski says well after midnight, colder air will move in and areas of rain will to change to snow. It will happen first in Cheraw, Bennettsville and Laurinburg. Then, Hartsville, Darlington, Florence, Dillon, Lumberton and Marion may see some snow.
Pam Oxenbin said she's ready for winter to be over. "I'm just tired of the cold weather. We're not used to cold like this all the time."
DOT crews are in emergency staffing mode beginning at midnight Wednesday into Thursday.
"We divide entire staff in half. Half of the force will be on tonight," Scarborough says.
DOT has activated their winter weather road conditions online. You can find up to date information about roads in every county in South Carolina.
"I hope that it snows, and we don't get a lot of ice instead," driver Robin Elliot told NewsChannel 15.
Since a little after 8 a.m. Wednesday, crews have been spreading salt brine on the western counties' interstates and primary roads. They're also focusing on areas that are prone to freezing like bridges.
"We've been spreading brine in Darlington, Florence, Marlboro, and Dillion counties," Scarborough says.
The brine is a walter-salt mixture. The water evaporates and the salt stays on. While forecasts aren't showing the roads to be cold enough to freeze, the DOT says better safe than sorry.
"We're taking precautions because we'd rather err on the side of safety," Scarborough says.
"If it {does} snow we have to take it as it come. It's God's will," Bishop Rogers said.
