Officer resigns from Horry County PD after arrest

Lt. Raul Denis says John William Parker, 49, resigned from the Horry County Police Department Tuesday morning. Lt. Denis say the resignation is effective immediately.

State Troopers arrested Parker for driving under the influence over the weekend.

Troopers pulled over Parker on Glenns Bay Road just after midnight Saturday. Parker was booked at J Reuben Long Detention Center. He was released a few hours later of his own personal recognizance.

State Troopers arrested John William Parker, 49, for driving under the influence over the weekend.

Horry County Police Lt. Raul Denis says he's not sure of Parker's status with the department and he's not able to find out because it's a holiday. Lt. Denis say he thinks Parker is suspended because Monday would be Parker's normal day to work and he's not in.

State troopers charged John William Parker, 49, with driving under the influence.

Officials say Parker was pulled over on Glenns Bay Road just after midnight.

He later complained of a health issue so he was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Parker was booked at J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 3:38 a.m.

A judge released Parker a few hours later on a personal recognizance bond.

Horry County Police spokesman Sgt. Robert Kegler would not comment on Parker's arrest.
