AAA Carolinas predicts the number of holiday travelers to be three to four percent higher in North and South Carolina than it was last year. The holiday travel season ended as travelers were flying and driving back home today, and despite rising gas prices and the threat of winter weather this holiday more people traveled this season than in 2009.

Some 3 million people flying today. That's up 3 percent from last year, AAA says.

The majority of Americans, 85 million drove home this year. That's also up three percent from last year. This weekend the average price of gas is around $3 a gallon across much of the country. Many gas stations across the Grand Strand were charging an average of $2.85.
