It's time to start thinking about a safe way to get home, if you're planning on partying on New Year's Eve. That reminder from the South Carolina Highway Patrol, which will have extra troopers on duty this weekend to enforce drunk driving laws.
If it's using a designated driver, a taxicab or an overnight stay at a hotel, troopers suggest you start planning now rather than wait until the last minute because your chances of being caught are much higher today than they were just a few years ago.
"We have a lot of people out looking for you. Not only are we going to be looking, but also the general public because they can dial *hp from any cell phone and report impaired driving to us," Lance Corporal Sonny Collins told NewsChannel 15.
Collins says driver impairment starts with the very first drink, so no matter how much alcohol you consume, you should avoid driving.
