The third time was not a charm Tuesday morning, as the Surfside Beach Town Council met to consider bids for the restaurant space at the Surfside Beach Pier.
No bids were submitted this time around. Town officials say according to guidelines and ordinances they must hold three bidding hearings. Because there's still no bidder, they're waiting on a opinion from the Attorney General about what to do next.
The town bought the pier in 2008. As the owners, they are required to collect bids for the leased restaurant space. That space was occupied by Nibils Restaurant for 23 years. Their lease was set to expire in December, so the owners of Nibils submitted a bid during the 1st round in May. The other bid came from Surfside Café at the Pier, proposed by local TV personality Cecil Chandler, who is an employee of WPDE.
The town deemed both entries incomplete.
The town asked for bids again in October, but none were submitted. Nibils decided to move to another location.
