The South Carolina Department of Transportation reminds property owners near streets and highways to be careful about using lawn sprinklers during cold weather.

The department says water that runs off the property and into the roadways can freeze overnight creating dangerous driving conditions.

SCDOT asks that property owners and businesses, particularly those with automatic sprinkler systems, to consider adjusting timers to prevent runoff that could freeze up on the highways.
