SC offers free traveler information by phone

There's a new way to help you navigate South Carolina roads.

The Department of Transportation announced Thursday a new 511 traveler information system.

It's a free phone and internet service that provides real-time traffic information on all of the interstates and some of the highways along the coast.

Highways now included are Business I-85, I-20, I-26, I-77, I-85, I-95, I-385, I-526, I-585, SC-277, SC-22 and SC-31. Limited coverage will be provided on SC-170, US-21, US-278 in Beaufort and US-501 in Myrtle Beach.
