RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Several North Carolina cities are preparing for winter weather.

The National Weather Service said Raleigh, Greensboro, Asheville, Boone, Hickory could get some snow Saturday.

Forecasts for central North Carolina called for less than half an inch of accumulation with the snow melting quickly as Sunday temperatures increase to the mid-40s.

In the mountains, the snow was expected to be heavier - up to two inches - and last longer as temperatures will remain at or below freezing through Sunday.

Winter weather advisories for areas north and west of Raleigh called for possible icy roads and wind gusts up to 30 mph.
