Students at Aynor Middle School planted 50 Eastern Redbud trees on campus Friday.

They got the trees from the Disney Foundation and the Arbor Day Foundation. Students learned about the importance of Arbor Day in class before they got the chance to spend some time outdoors. "We are planting trees because, well, too many are being torn down and destroyed and stuff and we need to plant more," said student Taylor Lilly.

South Carolina celebrates Arbor Day on the first Friday of December each year. The first Arbor Day was on April 10th, 1872 in Nebraska.

Now, all 50 states celebrate Arbor Day, but the dates vary depending on the local climate.

National Arbor Day is the last Friday in April.
