More than 100 students from Pee Dee Elementary got out of class to get active Thursday.
Run, Jump, and Throw with the Chants is a program designed to promote a more healthy and active lifestyle in kids.
Several track and field and cross country athletes from Coastal Carolina spent the afternoon running drills with the students and teaching them different parts of the sport.
"We are just trying to introduce them into the track and field section of everything, because not a lot of kids get exposure to it, and not everyone knows what it is, and we want to show them its not just running in circles," said CCU track and field athlete Jacob Scheuer.
"It's important for a couple of reasons. Number one, just introducing them to athletic activity of getting out and running around. We also stress some healthy choices, like with eating and making good choices in life," said men's track and field head coach Jeff Jacobs.
The track and field and cross country teams have already met with the students at Pee Dee Elementary three times this year and hope to hold more sessions like these in the spring.
