Darlington County deputies have released more information about the arrest of student for a plot against the School Resource Officer.

Deputies say another student told school officials the 12-year-old Darlington Middle School student planned to fight the SRO.

Wednesday, the sixth grader was arrested and released to the custody of his parents.

The school district says it is taking appropriate disciplinary action.

"We take all threats to our students and staff very seriously and we support law enforcement efforts to find and prosecute anyone who disrupts our schools," said Dr. Rainey Knight, superintendent.

"We will continue to look into this situation. At this time this it is an isolated incident. There is no involvement of any other students" added Sheriff Wayne Byrd.

The boy's case was referred to the Department of Juvenile Justice for prosecution.
