Election workers say voter turnout in the Pee Dee has been good, particularly in Florence and Marion counties.
It was so busy at the Marion South precinct Tuesday morning, poll workers had to split the lines to keep voters moving. Precinct manager John Duncan said there were about 20 voters in line when the polls opened at 7:00 am.
Franklin Griffin, a Marion South voter, said he was glad to see so many people turn out to vote.
The local race that had many wanting to cast a ballot is the 12th Circuit Solicitor's race in Florence and Marion counties. "I noticed a lot of signs for Ed Clements, a lot of signs for Rose Mary Parham," said voter Brenda Wright. Clements is the Democratic incumbent. Rose Mary Parham is the Republican challenger. "It's just an important race all the way around for every candidate and i feel that we should exercise our right to vote," said Florence voter Darlene Bateman.
At the Savannah Grove precinct in Florence, more than 100 people were in line to vote when the polls opened. By noon, nearly 650 of the precinct's 3,200 registered voters had cast their ballots.
Election officials say in some parts of the Pee Dee, turnout has been better than in the last mid-term election.
