Last week, Willie Smith announced that he was no longer the chief of the Marion Police Department and a group of concerned citizens wants to know why he's out of a job.
Smith had run the department for the past 19 years and had been on the force for a total of 34 years. Smith has yet to tell us if he resigned or was fired, but he said his attorney will release a statement later this week.
Marion Mayor Rodney Berry says Smith's departure is a personnel matter and won't comment on it.
The Concerned Citizens Group is holding a meeting Wednesday night at 7:00 to express their dissatisfaction. The meeting is taking place at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church on Dixon Street.
