Horry County firefighters will hit the road Thursday for the National Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge competition in Florida.

Team Horry trains all year for the event and says it does make them better at their jobs, but they also enjoy the thrill of the competition.

"You have to do a lot of relays to prepare properly and mentally because it is such a big event. We really want to come back with that national championship. While we host the World's why not be the National champions?" said Mike Medeiros, Team Horry Co-Captain.

Myrtle Beach will host the world competition next month, and it's expected to bring thousands of people to the area.

The event is normally held in Las Vegas.
