The director of the animal shelter in Marion caring for 179 Chihuahuas seized from a home last week says a rescue group out of Pennsylvania has taken 27 of the animals, including ten pregnant dogs.

The rescue group will take care of the animals until they can get them adopted. The shelter was not clear on the name of the rescue group, but we will update the story with that information as soon as we have it.

Officers seized the dogs and several other animals from a home on Allen Drive in Marion last Tuesday. Marion city leaders have the condemned the home, which was littered with animal waste.

Marion Police tell us there are no ordinances against animal hoarding in Marion, so they not sure if the owner of the animals will be charged.

The remainder of the dogs are being cared for at the Marion County Animal Shelter, run by Paws To The Rescue. Some of the animals have serious medical conditions due to inbreeding.

Shelter director Jennifer Nalls says Wednesday, another rescue group is expected to take other animals at the shelter to make more room for the Chihuahuas.

Paws To The Rescue is still asking for donations to order bulk supplies of vaccinations, de-worming medication, and heartworm tests for the dogs.

The shelter is accepting donations for the animals at two locations:
