Marion Mayor Rodney Berry tells NewsChannel 15 Officer Allen Elvis lost his service gun last Thursday and he's not sure where he lost it.

Elvis is the school resource officer at Marion High School and is an assistant football coach. Mayor Berry says the officer may have lost his gun while changing clothes at the school for his football duties.

He says when Elvis realized his gun was missing, he reported it to his captain at the Marion Police Department and they immediately started an investigation.

The mayor says because this is a potentially dangerous situation, they've suspended Elvis from the force without pay.

Berry tells NewsChannel 15 they are offering amnesty to anyone who may have information about the gun or to the person who has the weapon.

Officer Elvis has been with Marion Police for more than three years. Mayor Berry says he is an excellent officer with an exemplary record.

At this point, officials aren't sure if they will call in the State Law Enforcement Division to help in this investigation.
