Brady Johnson is in federal court Tuesday morning, for a pretrial conference on his trial.

He faces federal gun charges in connection with theĀ shooting death of Florence police officer Matthew Clayton. Johnson is accused of killing Clayton at his Florence home, back in February. He faces a state charge of voluntary manslaughter.

In May, Florence County Solicitor Ed Clements asked that Johnson's case be prosecuted by the 15th Circuit Solicitor's Office in Horry County. Clements said, "Officer Matthew Clayton is one of ours, and the case is too close to home for this office to be objective."

Johnson remains behind bars at the Florence County Detention Center.

Federal court documents show jury selection for his trial could begin next week, if he is not granted a continuance.
