(AP) -- Boy Scouts in South Carolina have a new patch to aim for, the "Scout Carolina" patch.
The South Carolina State Park Service was looking for a way to recognize the work Boy Scouts do at our state parks.
Wednesday, Governor Mark Sanford was joined by leaders from the park service and the Boy Scouts. The patch will be given to Boy Scouts who complete projects that protect park resources and improve visitor services.
Scouts can earn the patch by performing three major tasks while camping at parks -
- · Practicing leave-no-trace camping for two nights at a state park in South Carolina
- · Participating in an approved service project at state parks with their den, pack or troop, and
- · Interviewing a park ranger about his or her career
During Wednesday's announcement, Governor Sanford presented the first Scout Carolina patch to Eagle Scout Drew Moore of Columbia. Drew built part of a new cedar rail fence at the Sesquicentennial State Park.
