Deputies flying in search of marijuana plants in Darlington County found 18 plants growing in a field in Lee County.

Lee County Sheriff Daniel Simon says the plants were found off Lynches River Road. He says they have pulled the plants and plan to immediately destroy them. They pour diesel fuel over the plants and bury them in a hole.

Sheriff Simon says they plan to talk with the landowner to get information about how the plants may have gotten there.
