Dillon police are investigating whether Mayor Pro-tem Randolph Gurley hit a pedestrian with his car.

Around 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to Beaufort Street where they found Lee Douglas Leonard, 20, lying on the grass. A police report says Gurley's car was parked about 15 feet away from Leonard on the side of the road.

Leonard told police he and Gurley had words earlier and Gurley ran over him on purpose. Gurley says Leonard jumped out in front of his car and tried to bust out his window.

The police report says the case will be turned over to the State Law Enforcement Division.

Last month, state police arrested Gurley on charges of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

Officers say his wife filed an incident report saying Gurley threatened her with a knife.
