Local and state authorities are searching for a man who escaped police custody Monday afternoon in Georgetown County.

Officers say the search will continue through the night.

A City of Georgetown Police officer was transporting Derrick Jajuan Rivera to the Georgetown County Detention Center Monday when Rivera escaped the officer's custody near the detention center and ran into some nearby woods.

Georgetown City police officers, county deputies and SLED agents are assisting in the search for Rivera.

It has been reported Rivera was connected to an armed robbery over the weekend.
