ST. GEORGE, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina man has been arrested and charged with murder in the beating death of a man at his home last month.

Multiple media outlets reported that 44-year-old Billy Joe Bates of Dorchester was charged with murder, armed robbery and burglary on Sunday.

Dorchester County Sheriff's deputies say 66-year-old Tyrone Atkins was found dead in his house in Dorchester on June 9.

Officials say Atkins died from a blow to the head.

Bates had been arrested on an unrelated charge Friday.

Sheriff's Capt. James Nettles says Bates knew the victim and had done odd jobs for him around the house. Officials think Bates acted alone.
