The Darlington County Sheriff tells NewsChannel 15 he's taken down a violent, criminal street gang.

Last night, deputies raided several homes and arrested 10 suspected members of the red scorpion neighborhood rolling 20 bloods.

The suspects each face robbery and criminal conspiracy charges.

Sheriff Wayne Byrd says the red scorpions are responsible for several armed robberies and shootings in Florence, Darlington, Orangeburg and Calhoun counties.

"We've had these series of armed robberies in and out and around Darlington County, Darlington city, Florence, Florence city," said Captain Andy Locklair with the Dalrington County Sheriff's Department.

"Sheriff Byrd just basically said alright enough is enough we had the information that linked a number of these guys together in one single gang and they had a leader of this gang . Tonight we have that gang shut down and in jail."

Police tell us the leader of the red scorpions is this man Archie Leach, 33. Investigators tell us he has a very, violent criminal history.
