The primary elections are not over. Voters will finish some unfinished business at the polls next Tuesday.
Besides choosing a Republican candidate for governor in the runoff election, voters on the Grand Strand will also pick a Republican to run for the First District Congressional seat.
Thursday night, State Representative Tim Scott and Paul Thurmond squared off in Myrtle Beach at the Marriott Resort at Grande Dunes.
The two answered questions on topics ranging from Afghanistan to I-73, the interstate that could one day serve the Grand Strand.
A panel of local media personalities, including NewsChannel 15's Tim McGinnis, provided the questions.
Scott and Thurmond attacked each other over voting records while serving on county and city councils, but both agreed on cutting taxes.
Scott said, "In order for us to build and grow our economy, the government has to get out of the way. The only way for that to happen is to cut the marginal tax rates, for us to reduce spending and put entrepreneurs like myself back to work."
According to Thurmond, "The key is across the board tax cuts. Tax cuts for businesses and tax cuts for individuals and getting government out of the way and allowing people to really prosper."
The winner of Tuesday's runoff will face democrat Ben Frasier in November.
