Volunteer balloon handlers needed this weekend

For the first time, Myrtle Beach will have large helium balloons as a part of a parade. Saturday morning is the 2010 Memorial Day Weekend Parade as part of Military Appreciation Days.

GUIDELINES FOR HELIUM BALLOON HANDLERS

The following helium balloons have been secured for the in Myrtle Beach, SC on Saturday, May 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.:

1.) Buzz the Astronaut - 32 handlers needed

2.) American Flag - 18 handlers needed

3.) Uncle Sam Distinguished - 35 handlers needed

4.) Stars n Stripes Hot Air Shape - 5 handlers needed

5.) Beach Ball - 6 handlers needed

6.) Patriotic Hat - 9 handlers needed

HANDLER REQUIREMENTS:

Handlers must be at least 16 years of age and a minimum of 125 pounds. No exceptions. We will assign handlers to balloons once on site; handlers will not be allowed to choose which balloon they want to walk.

INSTRUCTIONS DAY OF PARADE:

Each handler must be at 27th Avenue North and Ocean Blvd. in Myrtle Beach at the balloon inflation area for required training no later than 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning, May 29th. Handlers need to park at the former Myrtle Square Mall site between 23rd and 27th Avenue North and will be transported on a shuttle across Kings Highway to be dropped off at the inflation area.

The parade will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. at 27th Avenue North on Ocean Boulevard and will move south to conclude on 9th Avenue North. Balloons will turn right onto Chester Street off 9th Avenue North to deflate the balloons with the assistance of Starbound Entertainment.

Handlers will then load a motor coach that will be waiting along Chester Street that will take them to be dropped off at the former Myrtle Square Mall site where their vehicle or means of transportation will be located.
