Lawyers with the South Carolina Attorney General's Office plan to try a former Marion City Police officer next week, on charges related to the beating of his nine-year-old son.

Freddy McEachern is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature in the beating of his son.

The state grand jury indicted McEachern in 2006.

He worked for the Marion Police Department for about 10 years, before he was fired that same year.
