The Mayor of Florence has proclaimed May as Teacher Appreciation Month.

Mayor Stephen Wukela was joined by the district superintendent and members of The School Foundation for the announcement at West Florence High School.

Wukela praised teachers for their hard work inside and outside the classroom. West Florence High's Teacher of the Year says it feels good to be appreciated. "To have that kind of support really helps the morale, helps us understand that we are appreciated. Teaching is great. Teaching is wonderful," said Johnny Chard.

The School Foundation is asking Florence residents to honor teachers with donations to their organization.
