(AP) -- WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - A man police are holding in a North Carolina jail as a fugitive from a Florida prison claims he is Virginia man who authorities say died 27 years ago.

The StarNews of Wilmington interviewed the man authorities say is fugitive Charles Sparks for a story Sunday.  The paper said the man told him his name is William Bolyn Garrett of Danville, VA.

Police say Garrett died of a heart attack in 1983.  Garrett's twin brother, Bob Garrett, said he was surprised to hear that someone had been using his brother's identity for all these years.

A manager at the Myrtle Beach Yacht Club in Little River, S.C., told the newspaper he rented the man he knew as Bill Garrett a slip where he kept the boat he lived on.
