A man charged in the killing of a Florence police officer appeared in federal court Tuesday.

Monday, federal authorities charged Brady Johnson, 23, with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Johnson has a prior conviction for forgery.

Court officials say Johnson waived his right to a detention hearing and to a preliminary hearing.

Deputies say he shot and killed Florence officer Matthew Clayton last month. The shooting happened at Clayton's home.

Johnson is charged in state court with voluntary manslaughter in the officer's death.
